November is National Native-American/Indian Heritage Month. The month also boasts two federal holidays (Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving).  That means two wonderful days off.

Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, hosts the presidents of Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia for peace talks designed to end the war in the former Yugoslavia.

The U.S. Air Force revealed the use of a converted C-97 as an airborne command post. 

Nov. 6, 1930
Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker is awarded the Medal of Honor for his action in World War I.

Nov. 7, 1907
The Signal Corps is allotted $25,000 to procure an airplane.

Nov. 8, 1950
The first all jet plane aerial combat in history took place in Korea.

Nov. 9
The last American air unit is assigned to the Army before the close of WWI hostilities in 1918.

Nov. 10
Last patrol flown by the American Air Service over enemy lines in 1918.

Nov. 11
A world altitude record of 72,394.795 feet is set for balloons in 1935.

The 9th Air Force is established in the Middle East in 1942.

57 B-24s and 62 B-25s made the heaviest raid of WWII against New Guinea in 1943.

A C-141 "Starlifter" became the first jet aircraft to land in Antarctica in 1966.

The Boeing C-97 makes its first flight in 1944. 
The world's first ram-jet helicopter flown by McConnell Aviation in 1947.

Nov. 16
Capt. J.W. Kittinger parachuted from an altitude of 76,400 feet in 1959.

American fighters appear over the Philippines; in 1944, for the first time since 1942.

Nov. 18
A USAF C-74 carried a record number of 103 persons in 1949.

An F-86D established a world speed record of 698.505 mph. in 1952.

Nov. 20
The USAF accepted the first two F-4C jet fighters in 1963.

The first of several ballistic missile bases erected at Frances E. Warren AFB, Wyoming in 1957.

35 B-17s were based in the Philippines in 1941.

Nov. 23
The XC-99, world's largest land plane at the time, made its first flight in 1947.

Nov. 24
88 B-29s made the first heavy bomb strike on Tokyo in 1944.

Nov. 25
T/Sgt R.J. Patton made the first successful polar parachute jump in 1956.

Nov. 26
An RF-101 established a round trip transcontinental record of 6 hrs, 42 minutes, 6.9 sec during Operation Sun Run in 1957.

Nov. 27
The Army's first flying boat is accepted from Curtiss Aviation in 1912.

Nov. 28
The first USAAF bombing attack is made on Japanese-held Thailand in 1942.

Nov. 29
Development of the USAF's first all-jet heavy bomber, XB-52, announced in 1951. (B-52D)
