In 2006, in an effort to reduce the force, the Air Force initiated the Force Shaping program, eliminating thousands of young officers from the service.  During Phase Two of the Force Shaping program, majors and lieutenant colonels are being asked to leave.  And during the third phase of the program, to be completed by 2011, tens of thousands of enlisted members will be forced out of the Air Force.  It appears that's not enough.  Phase One of the new "Office Reshaping Program" has now been initiated.  Upon direction from the Secretary of Air Force, all office equipment will immediately be replaced with cardboard replicas.
(Above left) The entire force will be outfitted with 19-inch cardboard dual-screen monitors, complete with cardboard mouse, cardboard mouse pad, cardboard keyboard and wrist pad, and cardboard telephone.  (Above right) And cardboard refrigerators will offer a room-temperature storage area for soda, lunches and more.
The Air Force says there's an upside to the new office decor.  Because cardboard is inexpensive, junior officers and NCOs will now be allowed to completely partition their offices.
(Above left) Printers, fax machines and headphones, and (above right) in-boxes, pencil holders, CD spools and cabinets will all be replaced with cardboard replicas.
Surge protectors will also be replaced.
